The Find Your Fast website that took the award was the central site for a larger integrated program I had designed to introduce a new game engine for 3DVIA and position it alongside the companies existing social 3D publishing suite.  It also took the Best in Show at the W3 this year as well.  I could describe it but this one is better experienced by clicking on the image above.

As I mentioned earlier, they spared no expense this year and put on quite a show.  Congratulation to Kiki Mills and everyone at MITX for putting on a first-class event.  I was only sad to see that no one was actually Kanye’d this year!

The 2 pictures above were taken with my iPhone and I only wish I had the NIKON.  The picture on the left is me with the crack team at Genuine Interactive.  Check out their augmented reality application that was connected with their print ad in the this years event program.  Can you find Chris (on the right of the pic) do his best Lord of the Dance impression?

It’s a great story on the surface but I like the lesson being delivered by the list of angel investors,several who will also be advisors. It is a close-knit group of other local startup veterans.  This “local networking circle” brings together not only the necessary funds, advice and connections to grow the business but also helps to nurture the startup climate here in Boston.  The future for a sustainable and vibrant tech startup culture here in the area would be very bright if the next round of startups followed this example over and over again.

Shareaholic is a very simple browser plugin that makes it easy to cross post links to the top social sharing services on the web like Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon and Delicious.  Here is a video tour that was posted on the TechCrunch article covering the announcements.

That brings me to me to the topic of the day.  I would not typically post too many work related items here but my office is based in the Boston area and you have to admit it…it’s pretty cool.  3DVIA, a.k.a. “the day job”, just released a new 3D iPhone application called 3DVIA Mobile.  It creates a version of the 3DVIA.com site on the iPhone allowing users to search the 15,000 3D models published by sites users and view them in a real-time interactive 3D browser.  It is free for a limited time and available for install right now.

However, the really viral feature of the application is the ability to overlay 3D models over pictures you take with the iPhone. It is, to be clear, on loosely within the augmented reality sphere but having the ability to connect real with the virtual like this can have some very practical (and fun) benefits to consumers. How? Here is a quick video to describe a few scenarios.  Can you see the Office Space reference at the end?  Can you tell I need to loose a few pounds?

We also produced a more straight forward tour and overview of the product here as well.  More videos will be posted on the 3DVIA TV soon.

“Unregularradio.com (currently in open beta) is a full social networking site and streaming radio station geared towards the local Boston area scene. We want the station to complement the site by offering local people showcasing local music, events and talents.”

The site built on the Joomla platform is a bit rough around the edges but bringing local user-generated content together with the opportunity to get in at the ground floor could be exciting for the right people.  You also get the chance to hang out in the very cool looking Sanctum Studios.

It’s been a long time since MC Hammer jumped back in to the spotlight in an attempt to reinvent his career as a social media expert. I am not sure it has really worked.  What do you think?
