I would like to send out a special congratulations to Lowell based Dimdim, the open source online meeting software, who announced a webinar service that captured the blogospheres attention today. The service will allow anyone to hold a webinar for up-to 1,000 users starting at just $75 per month. It is reported to be less expensive and easier to use than better known services and 1,000 users is more than enough for most corporate users. One of my recent webinars topped out at just under 200 registrations.

“Dimdim is proud to maintain its commitment to offer free and affordable ways for everyone to meet online through our democratization of real-time, rich media collaboration.” said DD Ganguly, CEO and co-founder of Dimdim. I love how companies (including my own) just love to fly the “democratization of X” verbage when describing their services. DD Ganguly was included in my 25 Boston Area CEOs to follow on Twitter Yesterday for the Tweeps out there following local technology.

Dimdim offers a free 30 day trial of Dimdim Webinar and an unlimited number of webinars for only $828 per year (or $75 per month, pay as you go) after that. If you choose not to purchase after the 30 days, you can still use a 20-attendee version of Dimdim absolutely free.

It is a great thing when a local company gets a bit of love. Here is just some of the coverage for Dimdim today.

Dimdim, the open source web conferencing software company backed by $8.4 million in venture capital, today launched Dimdim Webinar, which allows SMBs and individuals to host an unlimited amount of completely web-based webinars with up to 1,000 people using nothing but a web browser.

Web meeting startup Dimdim goes big with Dimdim Webinar, VentureBeat, Anthony Ha
Dimdim, the startup taking on established web meeting providers with its low cost, open source meeting service, said today that it’s adding a service for webinars, big online events that could end up being quite lucrative for both the event host and Dimdim.

Dimdim Offers Webinar Service (CenterNetworks)
Web meeting service Dimdim has announced the launch of a new webinar service today. The webinar service can host up to 1,000 viewers and requires no software or downloads.

Though it may be one of the most grating neologisms of the Internet era, the “webinar” has grown into an important, often profitable, way for group leaders to reach employees and/or followers and for companies to reach existing and potential customers.

Dimdim is an easy-to-use, competitively priced open-source web conferencing app that we’ve covered previously here on WebWorkerDaily.
