What’s Going On Here?
Posted by dlaubner1 under 93 Site , Boston , Cambridge , New England , Start-Up , Tech , Web , Web 2.0Welcome to the inaugural post for the New England Web 2.0 Blog. I’ve started this post as a way to both comment and categorize new technology start-ups within the Boston area and throughout New England.
Why?
It will attempt to make sense of why the Boston area, which formerly was a strong hold for new technological ideas, is now apparently falling behind other locations when it comes to web innovation. I have my own pet theories and anecdotes which I will cover in subsequent posts but the real mission of this site will be to openly discuss continuing developments in technology (web or not) and relate it to local efforts within our area.
I will cover companies and technologies from around the world but my primary focus will be to uncover the efforts of entrepreneurs within the New England region.
Why Now?
I’ve actually had this concept since late last year but, as it goes with anything, the “real job” + life + “…you name the latest distraction” always seems to get in the way. However, I’m constantly reminded of the state of web innovation in the area by the steady stream of recruiters contacting me to help them fill a great position…in California. There are many reasons that the recruiters give for the discrepancy but when you you boil there responses down - there just not getting calls from companies in the area.
Second, I was reminded again about starting simple by reading the 37Signals book Getting Real. I do have plans to expand the concept over time but I am going to start with the most basic concept first - my own rants and raves for web innovations.
Third, I’m looking for a valid discussion outlet for my constant facination with everything that is being released. This would be an outlet other than my colleagues and friends who usually look at me with blank stares until I stop talking (or until a traditional media outlet ordains the topic that I am excited about).
And You Are…?
I could spout off about my background over the past decade - but you can read about it in my ever changing bio (when I get to it…remember, only this basics first). My real hope is that this will jump start a thread from other local web start-ups. I encourage anyone to contact me or post a comment. Whether you are looking to promote your new site, software or would just like to start a discussion of something relevant - just let me know.
Until the next post - Cheers!
