This Old Blog - Change is Coming
Posted by David under 93 Site , Blogs , Boston , Tech , This Old Blog , Web , Web 2.0 , Web 3.0
I only wish I registered that URL - it’s a good one and it’s appropriate right now. I’ve decided to give the site a refresh over the next few weeks, upgrade my wordpress installation and add on a few plugins that I have been meaning to add to the site. In effect, it’s a lot like This Old House but for This Old Blog (the URL is an abandoned blog right now). I know I should be focusing my time on writing new posts, reviewing local companies and helping growth in the New England web 2.0 arena but my current installation has issues that I need to resolve and it’s time for a bit of early spring cleaning.
This will be the first in a series of articles that I will use to chronicle the changes, tools and tricks that I use to get to the new version of the 93south blog. I’m open to suggestions, feedback and input as I slowly go through the process. It also happens that I will going through the same process for one of the blogs at the day job at the same time.
For this series, I plan on covering:
New Theme / Site Design: The current blog is based on the very popular Connections theme from www.vanillamist.com. It’s a great theme and very easy to use but not the easiest to read and missing a few key elements that I need. I am a bit attached to this particular theme because is was the first theme that I modified after I moved from Blogger to Wordpress. I’ll list out the best themes on the web and let you help me pick out the one that is the best one. I’ll then show you how I modify it to customize it for this blog.
Upgrade of Wordpress Installation: I am on an earlier version of Wordpress than 2.1 and need to upgrade. However, this title may be slightly mis-leading because I may be creating a whole new instance of the blog and moving the content over to there. I have not decided yet.
Update Wordpress Plugins: Like all wordpress bloggers, I am addicted to plugins. I’m reviewing all of the basic plugins that I have plus a few new ones that I have not implemented yet. I’ll list all of the current plugins on the blog and some of the new ones that are needed.
New Functionality Plus Tips & Tricks: I’m planning on adding some additional functionality. I will also run down some of the tools and tricks that I use to manage the whole process.

I’m not sure how I came across your blog, Dave. But you’re now in my blogroll. You’ll find me over at Mykaroshi.com.
