Going.com Secures $5 Million, Grows Twelve-fold in Six Months

Board members Bob Davis of Highland Capital Partners and George Bell of General Catalyst Partners, who are backing the firm, believe that Going.com is one-to-watch among Web 2.0 digital lifestyle companies.Going.com is part city guide and part social network.
The site offers a web 2.0 take on traditional sites like CitySearch and your local papers event listings by giving you a peek into “Who’s going?” to each event. Users can check off if they are “going” or “interested” for each event. This voyeuristic aspect of allowing people to see who is actually going to attend makes the site exceptionally compelling. Paticularly for it’s target demographic and the advertisers or event sponsors who wish to target them.
The site has an excellent chance to be one of the next highly-visible success story for our growing Boston Web 2.0 scene. The site has flourished in popularity, growing 1200% since January to over 500,000 monthly visitors, while operating only in four cities: Boston, Chicago, New York and San Francisco. I met with Evan and Roy from Going.com recently and was impressed with what they are trying to accomplish.
