Digg on 93South

iPhone Web Apps A bit off topic for the Boston Web 2.0 scene, but I have to admit - I love my iPhone!  Very few tech gadgets actually deliver on their  pre-launch promise but I have to give Apple respect…it rocks!  With over 1 Million iPhones sold to date, this maybe the launch that finally brings the mobile industry out of their closed architectures and into the modern web 2.0 world.

Here is a list of the best iPhone web applications that I could find organized by category. Please add comments with any apps that you think should be added and, if possible, the location of the company that is producing it.

Note: some of these links go directly to the app which may resize your browser if you are on your MAC or PC.  Also, I stopped adding the 1-million Twitter apps that are out there.

I Heart Digg Here is an easy prediction…right after the President Bush announcement about his plans for the war in Iraq, the Digg site and homepage will be flooded by bloggers trying to get on the Digg homepage with the most anti-Bush posts you have ever seen.

Why is this a post for a tech or Web 2.0 blog?  Because the wisdom of the crowd is sometimes very self-motivated and not as group motivated as you might think.  As I was watching the news this morning, it reminded me of a recent post that I read on the SEO Black Hat blog about “10 Steps to Guarantee You Make the Digg Front Page” listed as method #6 on the post (there are many similar posts).

6. Remember: Walmart, George Bush, and Fox News have NEVER done ANYTHING right. Everything they do is because they are 100% evil to the core. This REAL Axis of Evil delights in the clear-cutting of forests just for shits and giggles, the sadistic torture of children, and is right now plotting the Next 9/11 attack on America. Here’s a link to a Jon Stewart Video that proves it’s all true!

* * actually, I’m not a fan of George Bush; but his coverage on Digg is more rigged than a Diebold voting machine. Maybe he should ask for a Digg recount?

I did think about trying to write a post that included every tip…just to see if it would make the homepage (sounds self-motivated)…sort of like David Allen Coe’s , “The Perfect Country Western Song” for the Web 2.0 set.  However, this may do it.

What do you think?  (About why people post on Digg…I have no opinion on the announcement).

Can I propose that Jeremy Shoemaker or one of these other Web 2.0 start-ups just go ahead and make the infomercial about how to strike it rich with Google Adsense?  It seems that every day someone is coming out with another picture of their ”don’t you wish you could make this much money“ Adsense check?  Today the founder of Plentyoffish.com is circulating his latest marketing ploy / big adsense / me too check

I thought I would help them write the infomercial with your help.  This would be the first “open source” infomercial project in a way. Can you help?

You know the infomercial…The fake talk show with host that has the thick British accent and the ugly supermarket sweeps sweater on.  I think the dialog would go something like this…this is just a start, please help me right

HOW TO STRIKE IT RICH WITH ADSENSE INFOMERCIAL (DRAFT)

Nigel (our host):  So tell me Chris, how did you make all of this money?

Chris:  You know I came to this Web 2.0 space in a one-bedroom apartment with no money and no hope.  I found Google Adsense and it just makes money - WITH NO MONEY DOWN!

Nigel:  You’re tellin’ me that if I put one of these little wiggley googley things on my webpage…I can make lot’s of money?

Chris: That’s right Nigel - IT JUST THAT SIMPLE!

Nigel:  You’re tellin’ me - where do I sign up?

Chris:  Well if you take my course for just 4 easy installment of just $19.99, I’ll show you my step-by-step proven process to Strike it Rich with Google Adsense!

Nigel:  Wow - it sound so simple

Chris:  It is - and if you are one of the first 50 callers, I’ll throw the FLowbee hair styling system at NO ADDITIONAL Charge.

First thing on a Monday morning is not the time to be doing any maintenance so there must be something wrong here.  I just went to check a post of mine and found the site was down.

http://www.digg.com

UPDATE…back up again. I would have loved to be one of the links on the down page.
