Movers & Shakers on 93South

genotrope I just got back from another trip to the Paris office and I wanted to catch up on some activities from last week.  One of which is a great directory of area VC firms that Tom Summit posted on the Buzz in theHub blog.  The post includes (as of this post) a list of 39 firms and angel investors with a link over to each firms profile on Genotrope.  This will show you a visual mapping of the firms investments and track record.

For example, check out the profile for .406 Ventures (the first on the list) that shows their recent investments.

.406

Genotrope is a great tool for both company research and recruiting by attempting to use a visual mapping technology to show a companies "heritage" through it’s management team, investors and other key information.

This posts key question…do you like how I fit in the current buzzword of the day in the post title?

DatumOne of the local tech blogs that I have in my RSS reader (Google) is Jay Meattle’s Datum - its a great blog to add to yours. He just announced that he is moving from Compete.com to local start-up Lookery - a social media advertising play.

Good luck Jay - I’ve enjoyed your Datum and Compete.com blog posts.

Jay,  When you got over to Lookery…can you resend my activation code already?

reed-2004-06-07-LALocal start-up veteran Reed Sturtevant will start a new job tomorrow.   The veteran of numerous startups has been recruited to start a development office for Microsoft in an example of another West coast firm expanding their footprint in the area to take advantage of the local talent and the young pups being pumped out of schools like MIT.

When I spoke with Reed at the Tastybytes networking event on Thursday, he was excited about the upcoming role but was still working out the details with Microsoft.  He was most recently serving as Eons CTO (good timing on the exit) and has quite an impressive record of technology start-ups under his belt including being the managing director at the Boston office for web 1.0 incubator Idealab.

Cymfony paidContent is reporting that Watertown, MA based Cymfony, a market research and intelligence business founded in 1996, is being sold to UK based research giant Taylor Nelson Sofres for an undisclosed amount.  The company has spent the past few years positioning itself in the web 2.0 world or, as they put it ”at the intersection of consumer-generated and traditional media” providing media monitoring covering both traditional and new media for the business market.
