Today marks the open launch of Hulu, NBC Universal and News Corporation’s joint venture to bring much of their programming to the web. The site offers more than 250 current and older TV series and over 100 full-length movies.
I love Hulu for several reasons. For one, it continues the availability of true "on demand" by making my favorite shows available through the web. It puts yet another nail in the coffin of the dinosaur that is your modern set-top box. That’s not to say that Comcast and Time Warner will go away. It just means that they have to get out of their own way and expedite out how to enable true web like functionality from the set top box.
What’s the other thing I like about Hulu? Absolutely no attempt to clutter the application with over the top design or random features. In fact, the design is almost amateurish and very simple - just the videos. I’m sure they will add features as they go but I hope the simplicity WAS by design and not for lack of time.
The image quality is not the best but it’s the web and things can only get better.

What…you didn’t watch the 2006 “Really Awards” - the only award show dedicated to your favorites from Survivor through American Idol? If you are like me, you may have missed this one last year as well but this year is different. Now you can search for and find all of just the precious moments from the 2007 (and 2006) show online and watch them whenever you want. You can even vote to pick the winner of the “Realitini” or the Most Memorable Reality TV Star for 2007. Exciting, I know.
Fox Reality Channel tapped Woburn-based Gotuit Media to power and develop the online video portion for this years award show. The site uses the Gotuit deep video search and player technology allowing visitors to search for specific moments from each award show.
To give proper the disclaimer, this video website is the first public facing execution built upon one of the last products I created for Gotuit Media. You should see some of the other sites waiting to be launched (very cool stuff).

Although it was mentioned on the Brightcove blog last week, Adweek is reporting that Cambridge-based Brightcove will move away from developing the consumer portal that it had built on it’s brightcove.com domain to focus on their platform side of the business.
The portal will remain active but over on the “brightcove.tv” brand. Brightove will use the existing domain as their corporate website.
Also on PaidContent.
